October Programs – Flagstaff (via Zoom) – Pinon Jays

Program – Flagstaff Only

Name of presenter: Ann Pellegrini

Anne Pellegrini is an avian ecologist based out of Flagstaff. Since completing her Master’s in Avian Science at UC Davis, she has had the good fortune to study behavior and movements in multiple avian species. When not working on a long-running project on southwestern willow flycatchers, she enjoys watching birds and the funny things they do.

Title of program: The Pinyon Jay: An Iconic Denizen of Pinyon Pine Woodlands

The pinyon jay is a conspicuous and highly social species that ranges widely in pinyon pine and other coniferous woodlands. It’s also a species that has experienced significant population declines over the last several decades. In this talk, we’ll review some interesting facts about pinyon jays, current conservation efforts, and the results of NAAS pinyon jay surveys conducted around Flagstaff in 2021.
