By now, you have probably heard or read about the mass dying of “hundreds of thousands” of migratory birds in New Mexico. This has been a huge issue, not only because birds have died, but because the cause was uncertain. A couple of weeks has passed since then and a very plausible explanation has been offered by University of New Mexico biologists. The blame has been attributed to an “unprecedented cold snap”. The silver lining, if there is one for such a tremendous die-off, is that the explanation suggests an episode and not a chronic condition such as the fires on the West Coast, or wild mill blades or other repetitive factors.
