On March 1st, NAAS participated in the Verde Valley SciTech Festival at Mingus High. This is our second year with a booth, and it was well visited. Students had an opportunity to simulate birds foraging for food with the Bird Beaks Simulation stations, as well as test their knowledge of local birds.
The Ecology Class at Mingus Union High School (MUHS) came to Bubbling Ponds Preserve at Page Springs on March 7th for bird walks. This was the first time for many to see Bubbling Ponds, and they were not disappointed. Holly Kleindienst, Chip Engelman, and Rich and Nanette Armstrong brought their scopes and shared their expertise with their groups. Students were engaged and enthusiastic with at least one claiming at the end that he had now found his hobby.
Education Outreach’s next stop is the Enchantment Resort. We will be participating in their Canyon Conservation Weeks, and provide activities for guests to explore and learn more about birds and their habitat in the Verde Valley.
On April 15, 2017 from 9:00-12:00 we will have a booth at the annual Celebration of Spring sponsored by the Sedona Parks and Recreation Department. It takes place in the Posse Grounds. It’s a wonderful local family event. I am always looking for Spanish speakers to help, and all are welcome. Just call or email me at: 928-963-1202 email@example.com
Let me know if you have ideas or know of schools who would like a visit from NAAS Education Outreach.
